Counsel, Litigation & Compliance

Chicago, IL (Hybrid) | $170,000-$200,000 Base + Bonus

LHH is pleased to partner exclusively with Ryerson, a leading publicly traded metals processor and distributor, in the search for a Counsel, Litigation & Compliance .

Reporting directly to the General Counsel North America & Chief Compliance Officer, this is a highly visible opportunity for an attorney seeking a broad, business-facing practice. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing litigation, employment matters, compliance initiatives, insurance and risk management issues, and strategic legal projects across North America.

This position offers unique exposure to senior leadership, meaningful responsibility from day one, and the opportunity to expand beyond traditional litigation into a wider corporate legal practice.

What You'll Do

• Lead and manage litigation, claims, investigations, and dispute resolution matters across North America.
• Partner closely with senior legal leadership on litigation strategy, risk assessments, and settlement decisions.
• Advise Human Resources and business leaders on employment law matters, workplace investigations, employee relations issues, and policy interpretation.
• Oversee insurance claims, coverage matters, carrier relationships, and policy renewals.
• Support compliance initiatives involving data privacy, cybersecurity, government contracting, and corporate governance.
• Counsel business stakeholders on legal and compliance risks related to contracts, acquisitions, leases, vendor agreements, and operational matters.
• Monitor regulatory developments and provide practical, business-focused legal guidance across the organization.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) and active bar admission.
• 3+ years of legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or a combination of both.
• Experience handling litigation, investigations, and dispute resolution matters.
• Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to provide practical, commercially minded legal advice in a dynamic business environment.
• Experience with employment law, compliance, data privacy, cybersecurity, insurance, or government contracting is a plus.
